Sensei Robbie St. Jean - Associate Professor/Coach

Founder – Dynasty Martial Arts

5th Degree Black Belt – American Kenpo Karate (Associate Professor)
3rd Degree Black Belt – Kyusho-Jitsu
Purple Belt – Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Caique Jiu-Jitsu Windsor–Essex)

Robbie St. Jean began his martial arts journey in 1986 through a seasonal youth program at a recreation centre in Scarborough, Ontario. Training alongside his foster brother, he was introduced to traditional karate—an experience that planted the foundation for a lifelong commitment to martial arts.

That passion was reignited on February 18, 2000, when Robbie joined Steve Stewart's Modern Martial Arts affiliate school in Chatham, Ontario, under the instruction of Gary Anstice. What began as a return to training quickly became a calling. As an orange belt, Robbie was invited to assist in teaching classes, where he discovered a deep passion for instruction, leadership, and mentorship. Those early teaching experiences ultimately inspired his vision of one day opening his own martial arts academy.

His dedication led him into advanced study with the Pressure Points Study Group, earning his 1st Degree Black Belt in Kyusho-Jitsu on May 25, 2002, followed by his 1st Degree Black Belt in American Kenpo Karate on July 1, 2003. On September 27, 2004, Sensei Rob founded Dynasty Martial Arts in Blenheim, Ontario, laying the foundation for what has become one of the area's most respected martial arts academies.

His continued advancement includes:

  • 2nd Degree Black Belt – Kyusho-Jitsu (October 29, 2004)
  • 2nd Degree Black Belt – American Kenpo Karate (June 26, 2005)
  • 3rd Degree Black Belt – Kyusho-Jitsu (November 10, 2006)
  • 3rd Degree Black Belt – American Kenpo Karate (July 1, 2007)
  • 4th Degree Black Belt – American Kenpo Karate (June 28, 2009)
  • 5th Degree Black Belt (Associate Professor) – American Kenpo Karate (September 28, 2024)

Beyond personal rank advancement, Sensei Rob has remained deeply committed to developing leaders within his organization. He emphasizes character, discipline, humility, and lifelong growth, empowering students and assistant instructors to lead with integrity both on and off the mats.

In 2008, he expanded Dynasty Martial Arts by opening a second location in Sarnia, Ontario, later transferring ownership to longtime student Sensei Randy Stoner in 2016. In 2013, Dynasty Martial Arts became a charter member of Grandmaster Larry Tatum's LTKKA organization.

In 2022, Sensei Rob began training under Master Jamie Seabrook, continuing his advancement in American Kenpo. On September 28, 2024, he was promoted to 5th Degree Black Belt (Associate Professor) by Master Jamie Seabrook, with the promotion witnessed by Master Todd Durgan. He also became a member of the Phasic Kenpo Karate Alliance (PKKA) on July 21, 2024.

Expanding the Study of Joint Manipulation

Robbie has always believed that no single martial art holds all the answers. In addition to earning his 3rd Degree Black Belt in Kyusho-Jitsu, he expanded his understanding of joint manipulation and body mechanics through the study of Wally Jay's Small Circle Jujitsu under his instructor, Steve Stewart.

His training included the foundational principles of Small Circle Jujitsu and its fundamental wrist-locking concepts. Robbie successfully completed the introductory course of instruction, receiving certification bearing the signature of Professor Leon Jay, recognizing completion of the program. While he does not hold rank in Small Circle Jujitsu, its emphasis on precision, leverage, economy of motion, sensitivity, and seamless transitions has had a lasting influence on his teaching philosophy.

Today, those principles complement his studies in American Kenpo Karate, Kyusho-Jitsu, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, providing students with a broader understanding of control, joint manipulation, and the efficient application of technique.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Journey

Robbie began his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey on June 18, 2013, under Professor Thomas Armstrong at Gracie Barra Chatham. As is traditional in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, he began as a white belt and progressed through years of dedicated training, technical development, and mat experience.

Under Professor Armstrong, he earned:

  • All White Belt Stripes
  • Blue Belt
  • Blue Belt – 1st Stripe
  • Blue Belt – 2nd Stripe

Continuing his journey under Caique Jiu-Jitsu Windsor–Essex, Robbie earned:

  • Blue Belt – 3rd Stripe (November 8, 2024)
  • Blue Belt – 4th Stripe (April 14, 2025)
  • Purple Belt (October 25, 2025)

This progression reflects more than a decade of dedication, humility, and technical refinement while honoring both his foundational instruction under Professor Armstrong and his continued development through Caique Jiu-Jitsu.

Competition & Professional Development

Since making his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament debut at the Niagara Open in 2016, Sensei Rob has earned 21 medals on the Ontario Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament circuit. His competition experience includes the Ontario Open, Windsor Open, London Open, Provincials, Niagara Open, and numerous other premier tournaments throughout Ontario. His commitment to competition allows him to continually test and refine his skills while bringing practical, current experience back to his students.

Committed to maintaining the highest standards of coaching and athlete development, Sensei Rob became Respect in Sport – Activity Leader Certified through the Canadian Jiu-Jitsu Association (CJJA) on September 25, 2022. This nationally recognized certification reflects his dedication to providing a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment for every student.

In 2019, Sensei Rob successfully completed the WAKO Canada Officials Course, earning certification as a Kickboxing Judge and Referee. This qualification demonstrates his knowledge of competition rules, officiating standards, and fair play while allowing him to contribute to the sport beyond coaching and competition.

Under his leadership, Dynasty Martial Arts was recognized as a WAKO Canada Accredited Club in 2020. This accreditation recognizes schools that demonstrate excellence in quality instruction, innovative programming, the promotion of healthy lifestyles, and the fostering of safe learning environments.

Continued Leadership

For more than two decades, Sensei Robbie St. Jean has served as the Founder and Chief Instructor of Dynasty Martial Arts, building a school recognized for its family atmosphere, high instructional standards, and commitment to developing confident, respectful, and capable martial artists. Since opening Dynasty Martial Arts in 2004, he has taught and mentored thousands of students, many of whom have gone on to earn black belts, become assistant instructors, compete successfully, and make meaningful contributions within their communities.

Beyond the dojo, Sensei Rob has hosted national and international martial arts seminars, welcoming respected instructors from across Canada and the United States to Dynasty Martial Arts. These events provide students with opportunities to learn from some of the industry's most respected martial artists while fostering friendships and strengthening the martial arts community.

Now celebrating more than 25 years in Karate and over 12 years in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Sensei Robbie St. Jean remains dedicated to lifelong learning, leadership, and service. He believes that a martial arts instructor should never stop being a student and continually seeks opportunities to improve his knowledge, teaching ability, and technical skill.

His philosophy is built upon continuous growth, integrity, humility, and leading by example. Whether teaching a child's very first class, preparing a student for black belt, coaching an athlete for competition, or mentoring the next generation of instructors, his mission remains the same:

To help every student become the best version of themselves—both on and off the mats.
